Frequently asked questions
What are the 10 PRA tools available?
Social Mapping, Seasonal Calendar, Resource Map, Venn Diagram, Timeline, Wealth Ranking, Problem Tree, Transect Walk, Daily Activity Chart, and Chapati Diagram.
Can I use PRA tools without internet?
When offline capture is enabled for the account, prepared PRA activities can be recorded on the device and synced after connectivity returns. Open the app and the relevant project before fieldwork, then check sync status after reconnecting; unsynced records will not yet appear in the central project view.

How do impact surveys and PRA work together?
Start with the same project outcomes and indicators. A structured survey gives comparable answers across respondents; PRA methods such as social maps, seasonal calendars, and problem trees help participants describe context, priorities, and possible explanations. In FieldNotes, save both under the project and link each evidence record to the relevant indicator, then review the evidence together. This creates complementary evidence, not automatic proof that the programme caused an impact: causal impact claims need an evaluation design suited to the question.

Can digital PRA replace a facilitator or community discussion?
No. The app records the exercise, but a facilitator still needs to explain the activity, support inclusive participation, and validate the community's interpretation. PRA is participatory by design; the digital tool does not decide whose views are represented or interpret findings for the group.
